Snapshot — Privacy Policy

What the extension does

Snapshot captures an image of the browser tab you are viewing — the visible area, a region you select, a region of an exact pixel size, or the whole scrollable page (including pages that scroll inside their own panel, not just the window) — then opens it in an on-page editor for annotation before you save it. From there you can download it as JPG, PNG, or PDF, or copy it to your clipboard.

Data handling

• Screenshot images exist only in your browser's memory while the capture is being assembled and annotated. They are written to the file you download or to your clipboard, and are discarded afterward. They are never uploaded anywhere.
• Page title is read at the moment of capture, solely to name the saved file. It is not stored.
• Your settings — file format, delay, and the last width and height used for an exact-size capture — are saved locally using chrome.storage.local. They never leave your device.
• No browsing history, page content, form data, cookies, or credentials are read, logged, or transmitted.

Permissions and why they are needed

• activeTab — to capture an image of the tab you are on, only after you invoke the extension. It grants no access to other tabs and expires when you navigate away.
• scripting — to measure the page, scroll it during a full-page or select-area capture, and draw the selection overlay for a cropped capture.
• downloads — to save the finished image or PDF to your Downloads folder.
• clipboardWrite — to place the finished image on your clipboard when you choose that output (PDF cannot be copied this way — only downloaded).
• storage — to remember your capture preferences between sessions.
• desktopCapture — used only as a fallback, on pages where Chrome does not allow a script to be injected at all (its own internal pages, the Web Store, and Chrome's built-in image and PDF viewers). On those pages only, Snapshot uses Chrome's own screen-share picker so capture still works instead of silently failing.
• offscreen — used only to turn the video stream from the desktopCapture fallback above into a single still image. The offscreen document is created immediately before that one frame is captured and closed immediately after — it is not kept open and is not used for anything else.

Snapshot requests no host permissions and cannot run on pages you have not explicitly invoked it on.

Sharing the extension (not your screenshot)

The editor includes an optional "Share" panel that lets you tell others about Snapshot itself. Choosing a channel there (WhatsApp, X, LinkedIn, Facebook, Reddit, or copy-to-clipboard) opens that service's own share link with a pre-written message and a link to the Chrome Web Store listing — nothing else. This never includes your screenshot or any information about you, and nothing is sent unless you click one of these options yourself.

Links

The extension's panel and editor contain a link to plusbytes.com. Following it is entirely your choice, and the extension passes no information about you when you do.

Third parties

None, beyond the share links described above, which you must choose to open yourself. No data is sold, shared, or disclosed to anyone by Snapshot, because none is collected.

Children

Snapshot is a general-purpose utility and collects no data from users of any age.

Changes

If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted at this address and the date above will change. Any change that affects data handling will also be described in the extension's Chrome Web Store listing before it takes effect.
